Using Bluebeam with Parallels

Bluebeam and LAMA in the Cloud

As a Cloud-Hosted client, your version of LAMA runs on a remote computer. Using the Parallels Application allows for you to be able to interact with the software with many of the features of an application installed directly on your network (e.g., mapping to network drives, printing to local printers, etc.). However, for your IT security, Parallels is not permitted to give command to other programs installed directly on your machine. (You will note my examples from above are abut network access and drivers rather than other programs.) Therefore PDFs generated in LAMA do not appear in your default PDF viewer. Instead, they open in a PDF viewer that is installed on the remote machine you are using LAMA on. This is advantageous for you and your IT department as our remote computer absorbs the bandwidth for uploads and downloads, the storage needs for new files, and the exposure to cyber risks posed by members of the public accessing your web portal.
All of this is to say, that when using LAMA as a Cloud-Hosted client, you will have to grant the program special permission to open hyperlinks. Once enabled, this will effect as to whether you could copy and paste the link into a web browser that has access to launch programs on your machine.

Change your Parallels Setting to allow LAMA to Open Bluebeam

If you are a parallels client, right-click the connection on the left and choose Connection Properties. Then, on the Advanced Settings, check the Redirect URLs to this computer. You made need to logoff your connection (right-click the connection and LogOff) for the setting to take affect.
This should make the URL open on the client instead of the cloud server.
1.  In Parallels, right-click on Connection Properties.
 2.  Click on the Advanced Settings Tab.
 3.  Check the box to redirect URLs on this computer.
 4.  Click OK.
 5.  Shut down Parallels and LAMA and Reopen.
This should make the URL open on the client instead of the cloud server. Now, when you double-click the file in LAMA and see the pop-out with the session ID link, it should open Bluebeam on your computer.
This may become less relevant, as we have found that most LAMA/Bluebeam users tend not to directly follow the links to their blue sessions. Instead they end up having both Bluebeam and LAMA open at the same time while reviewing plans. The next page shows a dual monitor layout and highlights the portions of the screen that are most often used at the same time.

Dual Monitor LAMA/Bluebeam Use

The sessions icon allows you to move between different sessions.
Most users put comments in Bluebeam if:
• They are specific to a particular area on a plan.
• There is a location where particular information is required to be displayed but it is missing or erroneous.
•  An error or issue occurs in one place, but not others.
Most Users put comments in LAMA if:
• They are general.
• They direct applicants to other agencies or resources.
• They are pertinent to multiple areas throughout the plan, like a non-code-compliant feature that is displayed on several pages.
• Information of a particular type has failed to be shown throughout.
Rather than navigating through emails to access Bluebeam independently of LAMA, we recommend having both programs open at the same time.
You can do this by selecting “ My Reviews” and the sub-query “ Pending” to display your pending review in the grid. Then, choose the session of the most pressing review by clicking on the session icon in Bluebeam and choose the permit number or planning case name that you selected in the LAMA Grid.
If you do not see “My Reviews,” look at the top of the Query Tree to see if the word “Reviews” is displayed. If not, click on the triangle next to the cog at the top of the Query Tree and select the Reviews Query Tree.
If you do not see the session you were expecting, you can join a session. To do this:
Click on the “ +” icon and select “ Join.” Then type in the 9-digit session ID number in the pop-up window.
